Description
Antique 19th century Thai Naga (Dragon) Head wood carving. Southeast Asia, Naga is known as the king snake, the ruler of the underworld and waterways. In many Northern Thai temples stairway, naga was frequently used to decorate the roof finials, handrails of important buildings as an auspicious ornament. This is an original antique piece not a reproduction. To make this Naga, a large heavy piece of teak wood was carved to get its curving shape. Visible wear and natural distress from age.
