English & Continental Furniture & Decorations

The October 26 auction will offer important furniture and decorations from the 17th through early 19th centuries, as well as Continental, English and Chinese export porcelain, Georgian silver, sculpture, clocks, chandeliers, sconces, tapestries, rugs and Asian works of art. The Old Master Paintings will offer over 150 lots of landscapes, still lifes, portraits and religious subjects by European artists from the Renaissance to the 19th century. Furniture highlights include a George III inlaid mahogany Carlton House desk (lot 1539); a pair of Regency brass inlaid calamander card tables (lot 1595); a fine Regency mahogany partner’s writing table (lot 1563); a George III mahogany tall case clock by John Ladd, London (lot 1389); and a Louis XV gilt-bronze mounted marquetry inlaid calamander commode, mid 18th century, stamped Lefranc (lot 1515). Carpets include a rare Swedish Art Deco rug designed by Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom (lot 1657). The Asian Works of Art offer a Song Dynasty Cizhou pottery pillow (lot 1189) and a six-panel screen from the Kano School, 18th century (lot 1230). The Old Master Paintings and Drawings features Copleston Warre Bampfylde’s An Extensive Italianate River Landscape With Ruins and Figures in the Foreground, dated 1774 (lot 1151); Paul Theodor van Brussel’s Still Life of Summer Flowers, Roses, Carnations, Tulips and Peonies in a Terra Cotta Figural Urn on a Stone Ledge with a Nest of Eggs and with Butterflies (lot 1058); and a black chalk on paper Portrait of a Gentleman Said to be Julian Von Joel attributed to Sir Thomas Lawrence (lot 1017).
