Special auction SEATS-Select chairs 1750-2005

This pioneering Auction is the first in Germany to be devoted to a fascinating field of collecting, that is deservedly attracting increasing attention. The auction contains 221 superb examples of seating from 1750 to 2005, including great rarities by leading designers such as Adolf Loos, M. H. Baillie Scott, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Richard Riemerschmid, Josef Hoffmann, Louis Majorelle, Charles and Ray Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Eero Saarinen, Marcel Breuer, Alvar Aalto, Mart Stam, Mies van der Rohe, Gaetano Pesce, Egon Eiermann, Florence Knoll and many more designers of the first order. Carved Baroque walnut furniture, Arts and Crafts oak furniture, bentwood and tubular steel chairs, chairs made of plastic or moulded plywood, a French Art Déco armchair with original Aubusson covering, a chair made of felt or welded iron or nylon or fibreglass, a sofa from the House of the Members of Parliament in Bonn – the list of seats, chairs, sofas and chaises is long, impressive and entertaining, and the good news is that some estimate prices are as low as 90 Euros. All in all, the selection illustrates vividly the imagination and technical skills that have helped to create Western furniture over the last 250 years, the individual vision of the designer being nursed into life by experienced craftsmanship and engineering, as the style of the design changes and adapts to suit the fashion of the day.
