Bids and bidding

  1. What does "pending" or "pending approval" mean?

Bidders need to be approved for each auction by the auction house directly. You may leave absentee bids prior to approval but they will not be executed until you are approved.

  2. How do I get approved to bid?

Approval is at the sole discretion of the auction house and each has their own rules for approval. Contact the auction house directly if you feel they are taking a little too long to approve you, their contact details are within each lot of the auction. Once approved to bid by the auction house you will be notified via email and on your Live Auctioneers profile page.

Note: Live Auctioneers facilitates online auctions for auction houses and we are not responsible for bidder approval.

  3. Placing an absentee (proxy) bid

You must log in before bidding.
Enter your maximun bid in the "Enter a bid" section of a lot and click the 'Bid Now' button, then follow the instructions to confirm the bid and agree to the terms and conditions provided.

Note: If you are logged in and the bid box does not appear, then it is too late to place an absentee bid on this item.

  4. Opening a live auction (view or bid live)

You must log in before bidding.
Live catalogs are listed at the top of the Live Auctioneers homepage, click the red link that says 'View Live' or 'Bid Live' to open the auction window. These links can be found within any lot of the live catalog.

  6. I have a question about a sale or an item, how do I contact the auctioneer?

Questions should be directed at the auction house running the auction, the contact information for the auction house can be found on the left side of catalog and item listing:

Note: Live Auctioneer's support cannot help you with condition/shipping questions about particular items.

  7. How do I view bids I have placed?

There are a few different ways to view your Absentee bids on Live Auctioneers.

Option 1: Click the "My Bids" tab from your profile to see all of your active bids, you can also separate this view into pending or approved bids.
Option 2: Click the "Current auctions" tab from your profile, from here you can click the bids link on the right and this view will show you all bids on this particular auction. This same process works from the "past auctions" tab to view your bids on completed sales.
Option 3: Your bids are visible (only to you) on the item pages you have left bids on.

The only way to view your Live bids is in the bid history pane of the item page.

  8. Can I retract an absentee bid?

Absentee bids may be retracted up to 2 hours prior to the start of the live auction. You must find the bid in your profile (see 'How do I view bids I have placed?'), and select the 'retract' link at the bottom of the bid box.

If the retract link is not visible then unfortunately it is too late to retract the bid.

Under no circumstances can bids be retracted by the auction house or Live Auctioneers therefore bids must be retracted by the bidder who placed them.

  9. Why was my absentee bid not sent?

    Bids are not sent if...

    1) Your sign up is still pending with the auction house and you have not been approved.

    2) Your approval was declined by the auction house. (You may still watch the live auction)

    3) Your absentee bids were approved by the auction house too late (later than one hour prior to the start time of the auction).

  10. If I place another absentee bid will I be bidding against myself?

No, the Live Auctioneers system does not allow for bidders to bid against themselves.
    - If you have left multiple bids on the same item the Live Auctioneers system will execute up to the higest bid you have left ignoring any of your other bids. Eg: You leave 1000, 1500 & 2000 bids on lot 1 and there are no other absentee bidders on Live Auctioneers, if the starting price is 500 our system will start executing your bid at 500 up to 2000.
    - If you have left an absentee bid on an item then decide to bid live using the Live Auctioneers bidding console the system will execute your absentee bids and not allow you to bid live until your absentee bid has been exceeded.

  11. Can I see the high bid on an item before the auction?

No, all Live Auctioneers bids are kept confidential until the item comes up for sale, we do share the number of bids on a particular item in the 'Other bids' section of the item page.

  12. How do I know if I have won an item?

All items that you have won will be listed in the Lots Won section of your profile immediately after the auctioneer moves to the following item in the auction.

Post Auction

  1. How do I pay for the lots I have won?

All payments and queries are made to the auction house directly after the auction ends. Please check your email for an invoice from the auction house or you can also contact the auction house directly with payment inquiries if they were not disclosed within the terms and conditions.

Note: Live Auctioneers does not accept payment or process payments from bidders.

  2. How do I view sold prices?

Post auction data is available after each auction which you may view from within each lot or catalog page.
