L. Maynard Dixon (American, 1875-1946) created this watercolor on paper rendition of DeLeon Rancho - July 1896. The 11" by 16" work is signed, titled and dated at the lower right corner. Estimated at $2,500-4,500, it attracted 40 bids and sold to a LiveAuctioneers bidder for $15,275 in 333 Auctions' Oct. 2-3 sale.
A Catalina (California pottery) art-tile table with wrought-iron frame, 19" high by 22½" wide, sold to a LiveAuctioneers bidder for $7,100 in David Iver Auctions' Oct. 3 sale. Not only is it desirable for its primitive Mexican theme, but also because its colorful tiles, which are in excellent condition, create an appealing mural with richly detailed graphics. No wonder it attracted 57 bids!
This money box manufactured by Shepard Hardware Co. in 1885 is known as the "Picture Gallery" bank. Place a coin in the figure's hand and pull the proper lever on the back and the coin is deposited. A second lever is used to operate the instructive portion of the bank. When it is moved, a letter of the alphabet shows in the left window. The number this letter represents in the alphabet appears in the center window above the figure. Came from original owners. In excellent condition, it sold online for $17,000
