A George Ohr vessel with stovepipe neck, barrel-shape body and sponge glazing, stamped George Ohr Biloxi, Miss., realized more than twice its estimate in Craftsman Auctions’ Sept. 16-17 sale. It sold to a LiveAuctioneers bidder for $4,593.
In Bob Courtney’s Sept. 16 Fall Auction, 18 bids were lodged on a circa-1870, heavily carved pair of winged-griffin pedestals. The 47-inch mythological creatures were purchased online, within estimate, for $10,920.
A Toulouse-Lautrec (French, 1864-1901) signed color lithograph created in 1896 was a highlight of Clark Cierlak’s Sept. 10 auction of Fine Art, Ancient Pottery, Posters and Masks. Titled Cycle Michel, the litho is from an edition of 200, and sold via LiveAuctioneers for $14,100.
In Treadway’s Sept. 10 auction, a 10 1/2 inch Daum cameo and enameled glass vase with an intricate landscape scene and enameled signature at the foot brought $9,187.50 against a presale estimate of $1,500-2,500.
Clars’ Sensational September Auction held Sept. 9-10 featured art and antiques from the collection of late-night TV talk show icon Tom Snyder. One of the top Internet lots was this artist-signed Edouard Leon Cortes (French, 1882-1969) oil on canvas titled Quai du Louvre, which finished near the top of its estimate range at $33,600.
Garth’s Sept. 2 sale of Early American Antiques & Decorative Arts featured an extra-grade 1874 Wooton desk with magnificent detailing and many interior dovetailed drawers and pigeonholes. It sold through LiveAuctioneers near the top of its estimate range, for $24,000.
Morphy’s Fall Sale featured rare Japanese superheroes from the Carl Lobel collection. A 12-inch battery-operated Bullmark Kamen Rider (Masked Rider) with rare original box and inserts had been estimated at $3,000-5,000 but sold online for $8,775.
