Estimated at $1,500-$2,500, a mid-20th-century interpretation of a 1916-1917 Chinese Hungxien vase in the “Hundred Deer” design was purchased through LiveAuctioneers for $9,187 in Dallas Auction Gallery’s May 9 auction of fine art, porcelain and French furniture.

In Morphy Auctions’ $2.4 million sale held May 9-12, a circa-19th-century micromosaic, possibly Italian, depicting doves drinking from a gold vessel, sold online for an above-estimate price of $10,980.

Fans of Modern design recognized this 47-inch aluminum and painted-plywood mobile offered in Millea Bros.’ May 6 auction as an important work. Signed by its designer, Julio Le Parc (Argentina, b. 1928), the mobile came from a New York estate. It soared to $10,200, purchased by a LiveAuctioneers bidder for more than twice its high estimate.

Thirty-one bids were lodged on this English Georgian provincial teapot in Garth’s May 4-5 auction. Of double-bellied form with a gooseneck spout, floral repoussé decoration and an ivory lid finial, it flew past its $1,000-$2,000 estimate to sell through LiveAuctioneers for $10,200.

This quintessentially Victorian art-glass perfume set is fashioned as a 10-inch cranberry-glass egg, ormolu-mounted on a marble base. The egg opens to reveal four perfume bottles with landscapes painted on their individual tops. Estimated at $300-$500 in Richard D. Hatch & Associates’ May 4-5 sale, the set was purchased online for $4,875.

A scarce find, this Okada Space Fighter lithographed-tin spaceship with original box was expected to make $1,000-$1,200 in Bertoia’s April 27-29 auction. After heavy Internet competition, a LiveAuctioneers bidder claimed the toy for $7,320 – more than six times its high estimate.
