Auction Highlights
Photographer Herb Ritts (1952-2002) took this compelling picture in 1993, in Corresa, Africa. The gelatin silver print, numbered 10/25, was pencil-signed by Ritts on verso. Entered in Phillips de Pury’s April 25 Photographs auction, the picture sold through LiveAuctioneers for $18,375 against an estimate of $2,500-$3,500.
Bidders called the shots on this signed and dated (1933) oil-on-canvas painting by H.D. Storr titled Fox Hunters in Landscape, which was offered in Alex Coooper’s April 22 auction with a $400-$600 estimate. The 20 inch by 28 inch artwork was lotted together with another American school horserace-theme painting, and sold online as a duo for $9,600.
Online bidders were in top gear for RM Auctions’ April 20-21 sale of automobiliana, classic car parts and related items. A 76 inch by 36 inch illuminated sign advertising Ferrari parts and service proved a popular entry, selling through LiveAuctioneers for $7,800 against an estimate of $2,800-$3,600.
Billed as a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” this Heddon Musky Night-Radiant Charmer fishing lure replicates a minnow, but with unusual peppermint-stripe detail. Attracting 26 bids, the coveted lure sold above estimate to a LiveAuctioneers bidder for $13,500 in Langs’ April 20-21 Sporting & Fishing sale.
In Regency-Superior’s April 19-20 Space Memorabilia auction, a flown American Flag, framed and bearing an inscription confirming the flag had traveled to the moon with Apollo XI (the first manned lunar landing mission, July 1969), had been estimated at $7,500-$10,000. An online bidder claimed the prize for $14,400.
