Millea Bros.’Fall Estates sale held Sept. 14 and 16 enjoyed an average Internet sell-through rate of 26.5 percent. Forty-one bids were lodged on a Henry Redmore (British, 1820-1887) oil-on-canvas painting of British ships on stormy waters. The dramatic depiction, measuring 17½ inches by 27½ inches was artist-signed H. Redmore 1885 and presented in a giltwood frame. Against a $6,000-$8,000 estimate, the artwork was secured online for $12,000.
The perfection and timeless appeal of Georg Jensen’s Scandinavian design ethic contributed to a lofty result in SUSANIN’S Premiere Auction 51 held on Sept. 15. A weighty 5-piece tea and coffee set conceived around 1915 by Jensen artisan Johan Rohde and marked Dessin, Denmark, Sterling finished above its high estimate to sell online for $22,050.
Morphy’s Sept. 5-8 Fall sale averaged a 32 percent Internet sell-through rate, after a staggering 175,164 visitors consulted the company’s electronic catalog via LiveAuctioneers. Among the top items purchased online was a 1962 double-sided figural policeman sign created as a traffic aid. On one side, the policeman’s message is “Slow – School Zone,” and on the reverse is a Coca-Cola logo and the message “Thank you – Resume speed.” In beautiful condition from tip to toe, it stopped traffic at $10,370.
