Auction Highlights
Bloomsbury Auctions’ June 10 sale in London was strictly for the birds, and quite happily so. A distinguished collection of ornithological prints produced some stellar highlights, such as J.T. Bowen's 8-volume first octavo edition of Audubon’s The Birds of America. The collection of hand-colored plates drew 22 bids and more than doubled its high estimate to sell online via LiveAuctioneers for $40,060.90
A pair of 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty copper-red and blue porcelain vases led the Internet acquisitions in Sloan's & Kenyon's June 18-19 Summer Estate Catalog auction. Estimated at $1,000-2,000, the ovoid vases with dragon motif pulled in a staggering $22,420, with a LiveAuctioneers bidder prevailing.
