EXCEPTIONAL EARLY MODEL OF JUMEAU BEBE KNOWN AS "PORTRAIT" WITH ORIGINAL BOUTIQUE LABEL. Marks: 10 (incised); body: Jumeau Medaille d'or Paris stamp & original boutique label (see photo insert). 23". Pressed bisque socket head with elongated facial modelling, almond-shaped blue paperweight eyes with rose-blushed eyelids, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked and multi-feathered brows, closed mouth with modeled white space between shaded and accented lips, slightly upturned lip corners, separately-modelled and applied pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, costumed in antique early rose silk frock with wire-framed matching silk bonnet having lavish lace trim, dark leather French-style shoes. Commentary: Circa 1880, larger size early bebe having deluxe quality modeling and looking very similar to first period portrait bebes, pale bisque and finest facial decoration, excellent original body with shop label, original finish, lovely antique costuming.
