Description
Extremely rare Gorham leaded glass lamp. Many collectors, even those seasoned, are not very familiar with Gorham as a maker of fine lamps. Some of the finest quality lamps rivaling Tiffany and Duffner and Kimberly were made by Gorham at the beginning of the 20th century. The name Gorham is almost always exclusively associated with fine silver. However, in 1905, The Gorham Company opened their own leaded glass lamp division, in Providence, Rhode Island. This effort was an attempt to compete directly with Tiffany Studios. Gorham and Duffner and Kimberly were the two Companies that made lamps that most closely competed with Tiffany. Each incorporated outstanding hand rolled glass and exceptionally well patinated bronze bases. This Gorham "Wild Rose" leaded glass lamp has a shade with incredible fiery red catspaw glass and organic form green mottled glass incorporated as the ground color. True to it's natural and organic form, the bronze base is a combination of clam shell, Fleur de Lis and Laurel leaf designed. Save an older rewiring, using period type cloth cord, this lamp is entirely original...........shade, base, sockets, heat cap and finial. It will be a focal point in any home or office decor. The shade is approximately 18" in diameter and the lamp roughly 23 1/2" tall. Very few if any heat checks in what must be upwards of 1,000 pieces of glass. The leading is extraordinarily uniform and precise, featuring a deep chocolate patina that matches the base. Condition: Superb
