This lot is part of the Marcel Salive Fish Decoy & Spear Collection. Best known as the author of Ice Fishing Spears, Marcel Salive has dedicated decades of his life to collecting and researching the obscure tools and implements of the ice fisherman. Expending nearly four years compiling information for his ground breaking and definitive book, Ice Fishing Spears, he has provided an important reference and much needed education about this fascinating branch of our American fishing history. A significant number of the fish decoys offered from the Salive Collection were purchased from the late Art Kimball - a major contributor to the history of ice fishing decoys in America and author of The Fish Decoy, Volume I, II & III and Fish Decoys of the Lac Du Flambeau Ojibwa. This assemblage includes many of the most well known and collectible fish decoy carvers of the last half century. To date, this is the most expansive gathering of fish decoys and spears to be offered in a single Lang's auction.
