War of 1812 Financial Document Signed by Dewitt Clinton

DEWITT CLINTON, U.S. Senator, Mayor of New York City, Lieutenant Governor and Governor of New York.
Partly-printed pay order Signed, “Dewitt Clinton”, in brown ink, on 4.75” x 7” fine laid paper, dated September 26, 1814, New York City, Choice Very Fine. A decorative border runs down the left margin, light toning and X-slash cancellations do not detract from the desirability of this fine War of 1812 financial item. The signature of Dewitt Clinton as Mayor of New York City appears on this pay order for $339.50 to Hedden & Angevine for “City Watch”, along with the signatures of Thomas Mercein as Comptroller and J. Morton as Clerk.
