Partly printed Check Signed, “J. Fenimore Cooper”, January 18, 1840, Cooperstown, NY, 2.25” x 6”, Choice Extremely Fine. Check on the Otsego County Bank, in the amount of $100, and paid to “Harvy Clark”. Circular cancellation stamp partially affects signature. Beautiful woodcut of eagle and laurel leaves. Cooper (1789-1851), when challenged by his wife to write, created the classic works of American fiction: “The Last of the Mohicans” and “The Deerslayer.”
