Hand-Carved Wood Printing Block for an Illustration of Admiral Farragut

(DAVID FARRAGUT).
c. 1860, Antique Hand-Carved Wood Printing Block for an illustration of Admiral Farragut, showing him standing in full uniform with his left hand on his hip. Consists of a pot-metal (zinc?) plate attached with small nails to a wooden block, 3” x 4” x 1.” Probably used sometime in the late 1800’s as a book illustration. Farragut was America’s first Admiral. During his attack on Mobile, Alabama during the Civil War, he uttered the famous line “Damn the torpedoes! Go ahead, here.” A unique Farragut item.
