RAREST SIGNED Game Ball in BASEBALL HISTORY
Item Details
Description
THIS OFFERING IS FOR A RARE PIECE OF BASEBALL HISTORY; a team signed, game ball from the 5th game of the 1956 World Series, pitting the Brooklyn Dodgers against the New York Yankees. According to a list of "Baseball's 25 Greatest Moments", published by The Sporting News, No game of baseball has ever compared to this Game 5. The 64,000+ fans in attendance that day could have never predicted that they were about to witness the birth of a record that would stand into the next millennium, or that their ticket stubs would mature into $2000 piece of sports memorabilia. On October 8, 1956, during game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium, Don Larsen and his pinstriped teammates took the field against their rival Brooklyn Dodgers. After only 97 pitches, the Yankee pitcher became the FIRST AND ONLY pitcher in Major League history to throw a perfect game in the World Series by mowing down all 27 of the Dodger batters. The moment and wild celebration that begun with catcher Yogi Berra leaping into Larsen's arms has been replayed over and over for decades in countless highlight films. Don Larsen had done the unthinkable; he had achieved perfection on the biggest baseball stage possible, shining with THE ONLY PERFECT GAME IN WORLD SERIES HISTORY. The records associated with the October 8, 1956 gem include: most consecutive hitless innings in a series (11), most hitless innings in a game (9), most consecutive innings not allowing a player to reach first base in a Series (9) and most consecutive innings not allowing a player to reach first base in a game (9). Don Larsen's game was perfect, where perfection is simply not possible, and his record stands to this very day. Used game tickets stubs, depending on condition, from Game 5 of the World Series have sold for as much as two thousand dollars each. Much more than a used stub, we have an ACTUAL GAME BALL, including many signatures. Team signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers of 1956, while at game 5. The "sweet spot" says, "5th game- World Series, Oct. 8 1956" and is signed by Walt Alston, Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers. The other side is signed by Ed Sullivan who threw out the traditional first pitch. The other signatures on this historic ball include: Don Drysdale, Roger Craig, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Don Newcombe, Gil Hodges, Jim Gilliam, Don Bessent, Ken Lehman, Rube Walker, Carl Furillo, Fred Kipp, coach Joe Becker and others signed this ball. Fred Kipp was there as the left-handed batting practice pitcher for the Dodgers that day, (from Montreal) that was fortunate enough to be there to see the Larsen Perfect Game. This historic ball has been in one family since this game day. The original owner was the well loved security guard of the Dodgers locker room through their many years in New York, up until their move to Los Angeles. The consignor is his daughter. Impossible to put a true value estimate on this ball, since nothing like it has ever come available to the open market before. A low opening bid has been established, and the sky is the limit. There has only been one Perfect Pitched game in World Series Baseball history for over 100 years. There has only been one team signed baseball offered from that game, and this is it. Should be exciting!
