R-36 Classic North African type Snaphaunce rifle. Iron bordered lower stock which is profusely decorated with geometric shaped bone inlays. Unusual in that there is a brass cross attached to each side of the stock. This may indicate a C optic usage, possibly in the northern Sudan. Iron and copper bands hold the 49" barrel to the stock. Original iron ramrod. The iron lock/mechanism is rusted but complete, showing the crude nature of the weapon, but also the competency of a tribal artisan. Some geometric patterns decorate a wide band next to the lockplate. Brass "pieced together" trigger guard. A unique weapon in "as found" condition. Circa 19th century. II-
