A member of the pre-revolutionary Bubnovy Valet [Jack of Diamonds] avant-garde group, stage designer, and caricaturist, Ivan Maliutin was one of the first artists to come to work for ROSTA. The Mayakovsky-Maliutin collaboration in the field of poster production can be traced even further back, to the 1914 posters and postcards of Segodnyashny Lubok. In 1920, Maliutin was also the stage designer (with Osmerkin) for the production of Myakovsky's A chto yesli [And What If] in the Satire Theater.
