Delaney Bramlett Guitar Amp Used by Clapton

Sign In to see what this sold for

Used by Eric Clapton for Recording His 1st Solo Album. On one occasion, when Delaney met with the legendary Fender, Leo told Delaney to pick out any amp he wanted as a gift. Delaney relates that he picked out the biggest amplifier in the house, thinking he'd get a big sound out of it. Fender told Delaney that he wouldn't like the one he chose because it would be too loud for the clubs Delaney was playing at the time. Following a performance at the Palomino Club in Los Angeles, Delaney was convinced that Fender was right and returned the large amp."It almost blew the windows out of the club," Delaney relates. Leo Fender then set about directing his staff to create this amplifier and it became a permanent part of Delaney's equipment. Bramlett went on to use the amplifier during his gigs and jam sessions and found it to be very popular among his peers who shared the stage with him. In fact, the sound it produced was so good that he often found himself good-naturedly fighting to use it when the likes of Jimi Hendrix, GeorgeHarriosn, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Duane Allman were present. "The sound of that twin amp was so incredible that us guys would fight over it and take turns plugging in and out when a song was finished," Bramlett recalls. The amplifier also served as a crucial piece of equipment for another historic event. When Eric Clapton decided to step out of the background as a sideman and into the spotlight as a solo act, he asked Delaney to produce his first solo album. Bramlett agreed and the two went into the studio to produce Clapton's self titled solo debut record. This amp was used throughout those sessions. Heavy use of the amplifier and the wear and tear it was subjected to while carried around the world on tour led to the deterioration of the outer black casing which Delaney eventually removed and discarded. In order to make it more visually appealing, he varnished its wooden case. Otherwise, the amplifier and its components are all original. It sounds as good today as it did when the rifts of Harrison, Hendrix, Clapton, Delaney and others flowed through it. Accompanied by Delaney Bramlett's letter of authenticity.
