FRANCIS HOPKINSON (1737-91)
Signer of Declaration of Independence. ALS, "F Hopkinson", 1p, nd, 12mo, re a law suit from a sailor for his wages. "...I shall be glad of your attendance at 10 this morning with the papers respecting the Suit of a Mate of Mr Spicer's Brig for wages - I forgot the names of the Parties, but you may remember that Mr Spicer paid the Costs till a Receipt could be had from the West Indies...the affair is to be settled this morning..." Although undated, this letter almost certainly dates to Hopkinson's service as Judge of the Admiralty (1779-89). Minor soiling, o/w VG. Matted and framed.
