A Large Ivory Puzzle Ball and Stand*, The ball carved in high relief with birds, phoenix, butterflies and peony flowers with multiple circular apertures successively revealing the thin-walled inner spheres loosely rolling within, each pierced with geometric patterns and similar circular apertures, balancing on a stand carved with a maiden holding a fly whisk and a floral spray, and three carps spraying water in a lotus pond, a incised three-character mark to the base. Height: 22 1/2 inches (57.2 cm) Provenance: Acquired in New York during the 1970's.
