A Finely Carved Ivory Wrist Rest*, The concave side deeply carved with figures in various scholarly pursuits in pavilions surrounded by pine trees, all set in a mountainous landscape, the reverse carved in low relief with a bearded gentleman riding a donkey accompanied by a young male servant carrying a large double gourd, the figures approaching a rocky cliff with pine and prunus trees growing from it, with fitted wood stand. Qing Dynasty, 18th Century, Overall Height: 13 inches (33 cm) [Minor chips. This condition report states major condition issues only.] Note:The style of carving and the theme of scholars are similar to those of an ivory wrist rest of comparable size (24 cm. long) illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 44 - Bamboo, Wood, Ivory and Rhinoceros Horn Carvings, Hong Kong, 2002, p. 191, no. 156. Like the present example, there is also a scene on the reverse.
