GOULD, John (1804-1881). The Mammals of Australia. London: Taylor and Francis for the Author, [1845]-1863.

Three volumes, folio. Hand-colored lithographic plates, most heightened with gum-arabic, by Gould and Henry Constantine Richter, and printed by Hullmandel and Walton. Contemporary red morocco gilt.

Provenance: Amos Woodward Gardiner (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION.

Condition

Note condition: areas of scuffing, rubbing, staining and wear to front and back cover, top and lower spine extreme. Marbled front endpaper has staining to edges and previous owners bookplate on front pastedown endpaper. Areas of spotting/foxing on the fly leaf of all three volumes and minor spotting to some plates. Overall in fine condition; no losses to gilt, no rips, no tears or repairs to all three volumes.
