We at CNY Book Auctions are pleased to be working with both The Boyce Thompson Institute for plant research, located here in Ithaca, New York on the Cornell University campus, and Mann Library, part of the Cornell University Library System. This particular auction lot is from the books that have been sent to us by Mann Library, not from the BTI library de-accession. Coincidentally, Mann has included many antique and scarce botany titles as well as approximately 1,200 cookbooks. Condition/Details:This scarce volume is a very early catalog of the plant life found in the Boston area. Title page continues: “With their generic and specific characteristics, principal synonyms, descriptions, places of growth, and time of flowering; and occasional remarks. Second edition, greatly enlarged, to which is added a glossary of the botanical terms employed in the work.” Bound in full leather, the volume is lacking its front board (title page appears first), and has chipping to the spine and spine label. The binding is intact, and the pages are quite clean for a book of this age, with some light toning and foxing, some scattered wear.
