We at CNY Book Auctions are pleased to be working with both The Boyce Thompson Institute for plant research, located here in Ithaca, New York on the Cornell University campus, and Mann Library, part of the Cornell University Library System. This particular auction lot is from the books that have been sent to us by Mann Library, not from the BTI library de-accession. Coincidentally, Mann has included many antique and scarce botany titles as well as approximately 1,200 cookbooks. Condition/Details:This scarce volume is a “complete compendium of the cocktails, rickeys, daisies, slings, shrubs, smashes, fizzes, juleps, cobblers, fixes, and other drinks, known and vastly appreciated in this year of grace 1930, with sundry notes of amusement and interest concerning them, together with subtle observations upon wines and their special occasions.” This is probably the first book of its kind to be published in the United States in more than a decade, with Prohibition having just that year been repealed. The work, named for the Savoy Hotel in London, is filled with colorful decorations throughout by Gilbert Rumbold. Some age/wear to the outside of the volume, binding and hinges are intact, pages have some scattered spotting.
