Description

Spinach Jadeite Chinese Bowls 

Chinese, executed in an 18th century style. A pair of spinach colored jadeite bowls, highly polished and translucent. Each has a wide flat rim with ruyi borders, the exterior sides with lotus flowers surrounded by foliage carved in relief. Both bowls have two handles carved in the shape of a flower supporting loose rings, each having an incised six-character Qianlong mark on the bottom. Each on carved compound wooden stands; lg. 10.75 in. (26.5 cm), ht. 2.75 in. (6 cm) (without stands). 

Provenance: Purchased 11/1971 from Hartman Rare Art, Inc., NY, NY c/o Marshall Galleries, Cleveland, OH.
Estate of Richard C. Friedman, Shaker Heights, OH.

Condition

Extensive repairs to both stands. Small chip to leaf on one jade bowl. Small incised circle on one bowl.<
