FINE LARGE JAPANESE IVORY BOAT GROUP FIGURE SIGNED

Exquisite Japanese hand carved ivory boat group figure. Finely carved throughout to depict 13 people on a long sampan boat. Each is doing different activities and wearing different garb. A monkey, tools and supplies can also be seen. The exterior of the boat is meticulously textured to resemble wooden planks as rushing water is crashing against the vessel. 19th century. Signed to red plaque on bottom. Includes figural sea form carved wooden base. Boat measures 22 1/2" length x 5 1/2" height x 4 1/2" width (57.1cm x 13.9cm x 11.4cm). Total weight INCLUDING base of approx. 17.5 pounds
