&cf. The Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan is one of five magnificent historic theatres built in the late 1920s by film pioneer William Fox. Completed in 1928, the theatre's ornate interiors with their exaggerated details exhibit the influence of a romanticized Far East, first introduced to the public in the late 18th century. A renewed interest in 'things exotic' was at that time being fostered by an environment steeped in the designs and exoticism of the Art Deco era. Burmese and Chinese detailing were freely mixed with both Indian and Persian motifs by the theatre's architect and designer C. Howard Crane.
