Fine and impressive, carved oak, circa 1880, signed Jennens & Sons Gt. Sutton Street, London. Time, strike and musical movement with eight hammers and eight bells striking the quarter hour, the arch set with painted moon phases, the silvered chapter ring, with black enameled Arabic numerals, the chased brass dial engraved overall with scrolling leaf tips, mounted with a circular sweep seconds dial, a chime/silent dial, and a subsidiary dial marked 'chime on eight bells/west minster chimes'; the entire case elaborately well carved with an abundance of Baroque motifs, including winged griffins, scalloped shells, grimacing lion's mask and arabesques, the base with a with satyr and grapes. In excellent condition. 24x106x17 inches.
