1890-1910, American, retailed by Black Starr & Frost. Heavily carved all over with landscape, figurative historical and classical references, including Columbus's ship the Santa Maria carved as a vignette on the base, with further allegorical lions and classical maidens, the hood elaborately carved with two impressive allegories of Father Time surmounted by dragons; the movement features both Wellington and Westminster chimes on the hour, as well as a moon phase and a time ring in silver and gold leaf. Glass sleeve of the mercury pendulum with a crack, otherwise in excellent condition. 27x112x21 inches.
