Condition/Details: This gorgeous two-volume set beautifully captures American art at the end of the nineteenth century. The first volume, though primarily text, also includes a large number of lovely black-and-white reproductions of artwork from the period. The second volume is comprised entirely of beautifully reproduced tissue-guarded plates. The large volumes are bound in red leather with spine gilt, all page edges gilt, and marbled endpapers. The boards have wear and some uneven fading, front boards are detached, rear boards shaken with wear to hinges and gutters. Bindings are solid, and the pages and plates are in pristine condition, with a title page absent from the text volume.
