Title:Eighteen bound maps of the early United States
Publisher:John Reid Year:1783, 1795-96 Condition/Details:This is a fabulous collection of bound maps of the original U.S. states, printed at the end of the eighteenth century. The large sheet maps include Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and the "Tennassee Government," as well as a colored map of the Eastern Seaboard states, and maps of the West Indies and South America. Some of the states are scarcely recognizable by their original boundaries. Those state maps that include dates were printed in 1795 or 1796, while the colored United States map is dated 1783. The maps are, for the most part, in good condition and still very legible. The only writing appears in the margin of the first map, that of Vermont (where, alongside some attempted poetry, someone has added, "Harriet you ought not to scribble so in this book or Grandpapa might whip you"). Condition of the maps deteriorates toward the rear of the volume, with some significant loss to the last few maps. This is an extremely valuable and exciting historical reference. This is a great buy, don't miss out! No reserve bid, very low start bid - this lot is here to be sold.NOTE: All orders shipping to New York State addresses are subject to 8.00% sales tax.
