Condition/Details: This very scarce volume of swordsmanship and procedure was "prepared by order of the War Department for the Army and Militia of the United States." The title page continues: "Containing a manual of the sword for officers (mounted and dismounted); Rules to be observed by staff officers; Forms to be observed on parades of ceremony, including reviews, inspections, dress parades, and funeral parades." Bound in green cloth with a brilliant gilt embossed cover decoration and beveled boards, the work includes testimonials, and general order form the Adjutant General's Office (E.D. Townsend). Also included are numerous illustrations of sword positions and four engraved illustrations of mounted positions. The volume is in great condition for its age, with some wear to the spine, one signature shaken, solid and clean elsewhere.
