Original Manuscript of novel "Three Kingdoms" by Storm Jameson, 1938, author signed, with ALS and 1940 auction catalog
Condition/Details:This exciting find is the original first-draft manuscript of the novel "Three Kingdoms" by Storm Jameson. Although Jameson was British, the novel was published in the United States by Knopf in 1926. The manuscript is in two bound notebooks and hand-written in ink, with extensive corrections made to the draft. The first notebook bears the title and author's signature on the front free endpaper. Clipped to the notebook is a letter from and signed by Jameson to a Mr. Ralph Roeder of the League of American Writers, dated Dec. 3, 1938, explaining that Jameson sent Roeder the manuscript at his request to be entered in an auction to raise funds for exiled anti-Nazi writers. As an added bonus, a catalog from that auction is also included in this lot, decorated with a Rockwell Kent cover illustration. This was a "Benefit Auction of manuscripts, letters, books, original drawings, and librettos, under the auspices of the League of American Writers, Inc., in cooperation with the Booksellers Guild of America, for the benefit of exiled writers." The auction was held in January, 1940—just as World War II was beginning and well before the Nazi atrocities were uncovered. This is a fabulous, one-of-a-kind piece of literary history This is a great buy, don't miss out!
