Condition/Details:This is a very rare and early collection of poetry by a number of notable writers. The title page continues, "…who made this amusement a substitute for society, which the disturbed situation of the country prevented their enjoying." Titles included are "The Deserted Village" by Goldsmith, "An Elegy Written in a Country Church-yard" by Gray, "A Monody on the Death of his Lady" by Lyttleton, "A Pastoral Ballad in four parts" by Shenstone, "To the Memory of Mr. Garrick" by Sheridan, "A Prayer for Indifference" by Greville, "Ode to Adversity" and "Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College" by Gray, and "The Rape of the Lock" by Pope. Printed at Strasburg in February of 1792, the oversize volume appears to be disbound, wrapped now by its marbled endpapers, with wear to the edges and a loosening binding.
