Bible with Craig Family Genealogy, 1861 to 1942

Condition/Details: This is a German-language Bible printed in Nordhausen in 1856. Of particular interest is the family genealogy written on the Bible’s endpapers. The notations begin in German, listing the births of each child of the Craig family from 1861 to 1873 on the front endpaper. A page included with the Bible contains a recent translation of the genealogy, with the note that the Bible belonged to Mary Smith Craig. The rear endpapers list deaths of the family, beginning with Mr. Charles Craig in 1881. Mrs. Charles Craig, presumably the same individual as Mary Smith, died in 1902. Other deaths are those of the previously mentioned children and other members of the family. The Bible, bound in full leather, includes a metal clasp. The boards are detached with heavy wear to the edges and spine.
