Radakov, A. Knowledge Will Set You Free, 1920.
Znaniye razorvet tsepi rabstva [Knowledge Will Break the Chains of Slavery], a poster by Alexei Radakov (1872-1942). Published by GIZ, Petrograd, 1920. 90 x 60 cm.
Much of Radakov's poster art of the Soviet period is purely political in nature: during the Civil War, he produced posters for ROSTA Windows, and later was a regular contributor to a variety of Soviet satirical magazines. The poster shown illustrates a different facet of Radakov's poster legacy - the artist was a tireless propagandist of self-improvement through reading and education.
