Oktyabr'skaya Revolyutsiya dala vozmozhnost' vsem narodam Sovetskoy Strany stroit' novuyyu khoroshuyu zhizn' [The October Revolution Gave Every People of the Soviet Land an Opportunity to Build a New Good Life], a poster by [Klavdiya] Mikhailova (1876-1942). Ordered by NIANIS, the research arm of the Peoples of the North Institute, an institution charged with the task of raising the national cadre of future Communist Party leaders, administrators, and intelligentsia for indigenous peoples of the Russian North and Siberia. Published by OGIZ-IZOGIZ, Moscow-Leningrad, 1932. 101 x 70 cm.
The poster's central figure is a Nanai youth, proudly raising the newly published first Nanai spelling book, Sikun Pokto [New Life]. Parallel slogans are in the languages of several indigenous peoples of the Russian North and Siberia, and in Russian. Notably, many of these peoples had no written language until 1932. The effort to develop written languages, and to produce the first textbooks in these languages, was spearheaded by NIANIS, and along with textbooks came political education and propaganda materials.
