Rabochy klass dolzhen sozdat' sebe svoyu sobstvennuyu proizvodstvenno-tekhncheskuyu intelligentsiyu [The Proletariat Must Build Its Own Technical Intelligentsia Cadres], a poster produced by the Moscow IZORAM collective. Published by OGIZ-IZOGIZ, Moscow-Leningrad, 1932. 63 x 45 cm.
The abbreviation "IZORAM" stands for the Association of Visual Arts Groups for Young Workers. Workers' art groups were frequently led by talented professional artists and pedagogues; this assured the generally high quality of the nominally amateur IZORAM productions. With the formation of the Artists Union in 1932, IZORAM was disbanded, along with all other art associations. Workers' art studios continued to function, but the stated main goal of workers' art education was now to teach them how to produce propaganda in the workplace, rather than to raise a new cadre of proletarian artists.
