Ded odin, no milliony u nego v strane vnuchat [There Is Only One "Grandfather" - But He Has Millions of Grandchildren in This Country], a poster by Viktor Ivanov (1909-1968, Meritorious Art Worker of the Russian Federation) and Olga Burova (1911-?). Published by Iskusstvo, Moscow-Leningrad, 1941. 71.5 x 52.5 cm.
This poster hails the efforts of Soviet partisans operating in occupied territory. To fully appreciate its design, one must recall that "Ded" [Grandfather] was the name of one of the most successful partisan groups of the early war period. By January 1942, it had grown in strength to 6,000 fighters and took effective control of several strategically important districts of the Smolensk region. Victor Ivanov's war-time posters earned him a Stalin's Prize (1946). His collaborator, Olga Burtseva, also was an experienced poster artist and book illustrator.
