Repka, staraya skazka na novy lad [The Turnip, a Modern Version of an Old Fairytale], a poster by Aminadav Kanevsky (1898-1976, People's Artist of the Soviet Union). Published by Iskusstvo, Moscow, 1942. 89 x 55 cm.
A remake of a revolutionary-period poster by Moor (see lot 24), adjusted for the artistic tastes of WWII-period Soviet caricature, and with new verses. Kanevsky was a popular Soviet satirist; his caricatures appeared regularly in Krokodil and other satirical publications for more than 40 years. He was even more popular as a children's' books illustrator - his books have delighted several generations of Soviet children.
