KANEVSKY, A. The Turnip - An Old Fable Retold in a

Lot Passed

Repka, staraya skazka na novy lad [The Turnip, a Modern Version of an Old Fairytale], a poster by Aminadav Kanevsky (1898-1976, People's Artist of the Soviet Union). Published by Iskusstvo, Moscow, 1942. 89 x 55 cm.

A remake of a revolutionary-period poster by Moor (see lot 24), adjusted for the artistic tastes of WWII-period Soviet caricature, and with new verses.

Kanevsky was a popular Soviet satirist; his caricatures appeared regularly in Krokodil and other satirical publications for more than 40 years. He was even more popular as a children's' books illustrator - his books have delighted several generations of Soviet children.

Search extension words / key tags: Russian poster, Soviet propaganda, WWII.

A bit of legalese: any condition report is given as a courtesy to our clients, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Mercer and Middlesex Auctions, LLC shall have no responsibility for any error or omission. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or free from wear or tear, repairs, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Old paper items are naturally fragile, so some wear and tear, aging, and repairs should normally be expected. All items are offered as is.
