Vo imya mira i progressa [In the Name of Peace and Progress], a poster by Boris Berezovsky (1910-1977). Published by IZOGIZ, Moscow-Leningrad, 1961. 114.5 x 58 cm.
Berezovsky's poster, hailing the Soviet achievements in space, was produced as part of the "Our Achievements" propaganda campaign launched in preparation for the XXII Communist Party Congress. Apparently, it was produced early in the year, as it makes no references to Gagarin's flight. For a pre-WWII example of Berezovsky's poster art, see lot 72. The Siberian-born artist studied in Moscow in 1923-1924, but before the war he worked mostly in the provinces. Search extension words / key tags: Russian poster, Soviet propaganda.
