Chinese ivory figures of an emperor and an empress. The emperor wears a pronounced headdress and holds a large blooming chrysanthemum branch; his flowing robes are decorated with incising and pen work. The empress wears a phoenix headdress and holds a large staff in one hand and a blooming chrysanthemum branch in the other; her robes are intricately detailed with carved fringe motifs and incised designs. Both figures are tea-stained. Artist signature is visible on the bottom of both figures. Measurements: Emperor- 16 1/4"H, empress- 16 1/2"H.
