Antique painting after the artist Friedrich Overbeck. Oil on canvas. The painting is entitled "Maria and Elizabeth with Baby Jesus." The work is in a triangular composition, with Jesus at the center. Maria, Elizabeth and John the Baptist (as a child) surround Jesus against a background of ruins. Overbeck was a member of the Nazarenes, a group of German painters in the mid 19th century who wanted to bring medieval religious ideals back to painting. The original work is in Munich, Germany.
