Fine oil on canvas river landscape painting, c.1860, Hudson River School, possibly the Susquehanna River, Pennsylvania. With cows along the banks and fallen trees and mounted in its original gilt gesso frame, unsigned. 17”x29”
Condition reportThe painting is loose in the frame, appears to be the original frame, some cracklature to paint, a couple areas with paint losses, there are some spots of what appears to be wall paint drips, a “dimple” to the canvas upper right sky area, under black light nothing evident, but the area of paint loss near the cows on the far riverbank could possibly have some inpainting- very dirty and heavy cracklature so it is hard to tell and a very tough call. Otherwise, no evidence of any restorations at all, appears to be untouched. A very pleasing painting.
