Royal portrait.- Victoria, Princess Royal, portrait of the young princess in exotic costume, seated in loose blue patterned jacket and matching turban, holding a string of pearls, gouache on card with painted gold border, signed with a monogram TQ, lower right, c,1848, inscribed verso Victoria Princess Royal, Osborne Hse, with the same monogram TQ, but also a more florid monogram VR, and other less distinct markings, all in ink, 17.5 x 13.5cm (6 7/8 x 5 1/4 in), unframed. Osborne House was acquired by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1845, to be their informal family home. The original house was demolished and rebuilt to Albert's italianate design.***Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise, Princess Royal of Great Britain and Empress of Germany (1840-1901), was the eldest child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. She was born at Buckingham Palace, and was said to be extremely bright. At the Great Exhibition of 1851, she met her future husband, Prince Frederick William of Prussia, to whom she became betrothed at the age of 15, and eventually married in 1858..
