[Bondy Azulay] Grand Panorama of London from the R

Sign In to see what this sold for

[Bondy Azulay] Grand Panorama of London from the River Thames,
from Western Stone Wharf by the New Palace of Westminster to the Royal Victualling Office at Deptford Dockyard, folding wood-engraved panorama, title printed in pink on front pastedown, c.1850 by G. Whitelaw of Fleet St, presentation inscription verso of penultimate panel, dated '52, on 6 sheets, joined, 135 x 5530mm. (5 1/4 x 218 in), folding into gilt-embossed cloth boards, oblong 8vo.

***This panorama begins with the new Palace of Westminster, dating it after 1840, but before the completion of St Stephen's Tower (Big Ben) in 1859. It must, therefore, differ from Abbey's example [Life, 506], which has the same title and dimensions, but which he dates to c.1830, and begins at Essex Street, approximately 1600mm. into this piece. This example also differs from others sold in these rooms, which have been published by Azulay himself, at Thames Tunnel, where he occupied three booths, as the most prolific producer and vendor of 'peep shows' and perspective views..
