Description Circa 1650. German-Brunswick. This helmet was in the famous Christie's Arms & Armor sale of the Hanover Estate Sale at the castle in October 2005. Very, very heavy, being a siege helmet. One piece bowl, front and back brim each coming to a point. There are holes all around the outer edge of each brim to accommodate chainmail. The rear brim with two large centered holes within, accompanied by another border of holes along the inner side. Front brim held on by four straps, each having been damaged and repaired some time ago. Some of the repairs are early and are done in copper and brass and others are later solder repairs. Four rivets are missing around the edge of the bowl, the rest is intact. Both ear flaps are beautifully restored and aged after the sale. All of the original steel surfaces are in very find condition for its age. Light pitting in places and one large lamination wear spot on top of the helmet.
