Description Circa 1575. German. Etched all over with very nice high comb. Family crest is etched in center of comb and entire comb and bowl are etched in classic German strap-work enhanced with acanthus leaf. Large oval panel on one side of two-piece bowl depicting a man in stylistic armor holding banner is quite possibly a romanticized depiction of the owner. Large oval panel on opposite side depicts a very elaborate panoply of arms and armor. Brim is etched all around with acanthus leaf decor surrounded by a raised rope border. Two rivet holes, all others are intact. Moderate wear on a few spots of the etching and light to medium pitting overall, does not detract from the beauty of the etching.
Condition (Excellent). Size 13" T.
